The so-called-cursed 08/08/08?Bah,superstitions!

Ever since I was a kid,I wasn't the slightest bit superstitious.Coming from an Indian family,it is sort of peculiar not to be superstitious. My Mother has always taken unnatural events quite seriously and I was always frowned upon for not taking such kind of abnormal predicaments seriously. For example, walking under a ladder has always been considered,to bring bad luck by many people. When I heard about this mumbo-jumbo for the first time,I couldn't resist myself from going on a search for random ladders to walk under from. This I did when I was in my 4th grade, being naive, ignorant and alike,I began my quest of walking under ladders whenever I spotted one just to see what can really happen.Nothing happened, nothing ever did for the rest of that year, maybe lots of unknown people died on the day I set off for my little adventure, but that wouldn't really affect me now would it?

Many years have passed by,along with my proving-superstitions-wrong-scenarios,I had had almost done everything from breaking a mirror to letting a black cat walk in-front of me and yet nothing worth noticing ever happened? Why?Or maybe because superstitious voodoo is simply intriguing in books and to scare your feeble minded folks for self morbid amusement?Of course, our superstitious beliefs are just the icing on the cake.Where the cake being the prophecies made by mad French apothecaries and alike,to which people have made themselves fond of for over 400 years,is it because many people are just too easy to be fooled that such things have become so famous?

A handful of religious factions and similar seemed to believe and tried to infuse the theory of "The end of the world" by the date 06/06/06,to the rest of the world, just because some lunatics believe that the number '666' is the symbol of the devil doesn't give them the right to wrongfully play with the fickle minded people living on this planet,it simply leads to mindless chaos and havoc. But,in the end,the year '2006' too went on to be nothing special or diverse. In my present days,I don't really seem to care about unexplainable beliefs,I am just too busy trying to make my life good and decent, like any other day 08/08/08 had arrived,I ignored my mother's warnings and I went on with my usual schedule of attending college, eating my lunch, making plans for the weekend, etc. In case, people don't know what's 08/08/08,it's considered to be a very bad day for everyone,as mentioned by our so many well-to-do astrologers on the box and all of us were adviced by the media to stay at home to prevent any kind of misfortune. As usual,I never gave heed to such nonsense as ever and carried on to climb a 'RTC' bus to college,I had fallen asleep in the bus till the time I reached college,I was happy then, since I had a very peaceful dream on the way.Nothing could've ruined this day for me or could it?Anyhow I got down the bus and walked up to my class room and was reading a book. Then,I realized I had to call up a bunch of friends to tell them about some upcoming gaming tournament, but the only problem was I had lost my phone in the bus for reasons unknown, since I had zipped pockets,I couldn't have lost it,Alas!!My pocket had a major tear in it,which it had received on the bus too, which was big enough to lose a fat ass phone.Disappointed, after college hours,I began my journey back home.

After I reached home,I thought to myself, bleh, things could've been worse,so let's just take it easy. But,my nightmare had just begun.During the same day,I had burnt the food completely which I was cooking for the family,I had dropped a bottle of milk and had to go through the pain of cleaning the floor and making sure to have it stench-free.If that wasn't bad, later that afternoon, the house phone rang, only to deliver a message that one of my cousin's had a bad road accident and she has been admitted at 'Mahaveer Hospital',though I don't like her much, things were turning from bad to worse in no time. Before,my family and I tried to depart for the hospital,it began raining to the point where Hyderabad itself had become an underwater city!!So,we had to stay home and feel guilty about the fact that we couldn't help my cousin's situation. After having a bad day,the night wasn't OK either. An uncle of whom I am fond of,had informed my family via telephone, that now he is a victim of lung cancer and would be undergoing diagnosis for an unpredictable treatment for his inevitable death or for his unlikely survival.

The clock struck 12,and it was goodbye 08/08/08,while I was looking back on what happened on the preceding day, many thoughts flooded my mind, was 08/08/08 really a cursed day?Did I commit a terrible mistake by not listening to my mother?Or was it just a coincidence?Did the phone companies play a heinous joke on me?Were the the bizarre prophets right all this time?Or just maybe,I had a really bad nightmare? But,true nightmares don't disappear when we wake up,they disappear when we die! So,with all these fucked up thoughts in my head,I woke up the next day, with a smile upon my face and with a thought in my head."Hey!!!Things could've been worse.Right?"And our journey continues.........

The Green Mile Review

"The Green Mile"is based on a novel by Stephen King, and has been written and directed by Frank Darabont. It is Darabont's first film since the great "Shawshank Redemption" in 1994. That, too, was based on a King prison story, but this one is very different. It involves the supernatural, for one thing,in a spiritual, not a creepy, way.

I guess this is the only movie till date that has managed to make me cry. This movie has memorable performances by Tom Hanks And Michael Clarke Duncan. Many feeble minded people believe that this movie is way too long,in fact this movie couldn't be any longer or shorter with respect to time. Both the novel as well as the movie are mind blowing pieces of art.

The movie is told in flashback as the memories of Paul as an old man, now in a retirement home. "The math doesn't quite work out," he admits at one point, and we find out why. The story is in no haste to get to the sensational and supernatural; it takes at least an hour simply to create the relationships in the prison, where Paul's lieutenant is rock-solid and dependable, where the warden is good and fair, and where the prisoners include a balmy coot named Delacroix and a taunting monster named Wharton.

By taking the extra time, Darabont has made King's "The Green Mile" into a story which develops and unfolds, which has detail and space. The movie would have been much diminished at two hours--it would have been a series of episodes without context. As Darabont directs it, it tells a story with beginning, middle, end, vivid characters, humor, outrage and emotional release.[9.5/10]

The Dark Knight Review

'The Dark Knight' has to be one of the best movies ever made.Christopher Nolan has truly brought out the true tormented scheme of Gotham City. This movie was one of the most anticipated releases of 2008 and not only was this flick breathtaking,it was also so awesome beyond expectations that one would be truly amazed by the professional acting that this movie has to offer, which was clearly missing from all the previous Batman movies except for 'Batman Begins'.The Joker was played by Heath Ledger(Rest in Peace) and it would be a conspiracy if he didn't get nominated for the Oscars.Heath Ledger has actually outperformed all his predecessors with his portrayal of the psychotic Joker. The laugh, the scars, the lines, the plots, almost everything about the Joker was phenomenal.Aaron Eckhart was really good with his portrayal of Harvey Dent[Tommy Lee Jones, didn't even come close to Aaron Eckhart.Maggie Gyllenhaal has replaced Katie Holmes for the role of Rachel Dawes and in my humble opinion it was a great decision. And Christian Bale is rightfully on his way for being the best Batman ever. This movie is in fact all about respect, rather than enjoyment.'The Dark Knight' actually shows that not every ending is a Happy one.

“The Dark Knight” is not a simplistic tale of good and evil. Batman is good, yes, The Joker is evil, yes. But Batman poses a more complex puzzle than usual: The citizens of Gotham City are in an uproar, calling him a vigilante and blaming him for the deaths of policemen and others. And the Joker is more than a villain. He’s a Mephistopheles whose actions are fiendishly designed to pose moral dilemmas for his enemies.Yes, the special effects are extraordinary. They focus on the expected explosions and catastrophes, and have some superb, elaborate chase scenes.

The plot involves nothing more or less than the Joker’s attempts to humiliate the forces for good and expose Batman’ secret identity, showing him to be a poser and a fraud. He includes Gordon and Dent on his target list, and contrives cruel tricks to play with the fact that Bruce Wayne once loved, and Harvey Dent now loves, Assistant D.A. Rachel Dawes. The tricks are more cruel than he realizes, because the Joker doesn’t know Batman’s identity.Heath Ledger has a good deal of dialogue in the movie, and a lot of it isn’t the usual jabs and jests we’re familiar with. It’s psychologically more complex, outlining the dilemmas he has constructed, and explaining his reasons for them.

And the Batman legend, with its origins in film noir, is the most fruitful one for exploration.[10/10]

This World Is Rotting.

Sorrow, hatred and arbitrary is in our blood.
We've got everything from destruction to jealousy, but there is no trust left.

All of us thirst for knowledge and power.
But,most of us aren't so lucky.

The denizens of our beloved planet have got no honor left, all we believe now is in domination, oppression and slavery.
All of a sudden the taste of our fellow being's blood has become sweet.

Rivers and oceans have been dried up.
And the flow of blood has taken their place.

There are no more trees left and the birds have stopped singing.
And still some people wonder "What have we done wrong?".

There are neither days nor nights left.
Bloody hell, desolation is everywhere, there is no beauty left and darkness has become our worst friend.

We've built walls around us for protection.
Now,only walls are the last ones standing.

All of us have got short lives.
Why do we need to shorten it further with war?
Ask yourself.
